For the last eight years I have worked as an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist in an NHS setting, working with adults experiencing anxiety and/or low mood. I am also a State Registered Occupational Therapist (O.T.) and my clinical practice continues to be informed by a biopsychosocial approach with theoretical frameworks that highlight the importance for wellbeing of being able to function everyday and engage in meaningful activities.
In terms of CBT (and O.T.), I like the practicality. I like the questions it asks, "what is the problem right now?", "how has this problem developed?", "what do I want to be different?", "how would I know that things are getting better?". I like the opportunity it provides to understand difficulties and why changes might be helpful, maybe changes in what someone is doing or how they are thinking about something.
From the very beginning, we will consider together whether the service I offer is what you are looking for, and if it is not then we can consider what might be the alternatives. Throughout treatment we will work collaboratively to develop an understanding of the difficulties that you are experiencing, regularly reviewing the helpfulness of the change strategies that are being considered and employed.
